Medical expertise arrives in New Zealand

Attorney-General Robert McClelland said an Australian Medical Assistance Team (AUSMAT) comprising 25 doctors, nurses and surgeons has arrived in Christchurch to provide medical help to people injured in Tuesday’s earthquake.

Australian medical and police support for New Zealand

Attorney-General Robert McClelland today said 300 Australian Police Officers as well as Australian medical staff and a field hospital will be deployed to Christchurch to provide emergency assistance following a request from the New Zealand Government.
